LOCAL TRADE-IN!!1998 MERCURY SABLE LS WAGON, FRONT WHEEL DRIVE, 4-SPEED ELECTRONICALLY-CONTROLLED AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE W/OD, 3.0L (181) DOHC SEFI 24-VALVE V6 DURATEC ENGINE, CLOTH BUCKET SEATS, STEEL WHEELS W/ COVERS, AM/FM STEREO, CD CHANGER, ROOF RACK WITH CROSS RAILS. The current Mercury Sable is part of the fifth generation. This generation debuted for 2006, but not technically as the Sable. Named the Mercury Montego, it was meant to fully replace the Sable until Mercury decided that there was too much heritage in the Sable name to fully let it die. The Montego was renamed Sable for 2008. If you're looking at a used Montego, note that it was powered by a comparatively wheezy 203-hp V6. The current Sable's 263-hp V6, as well as a styling refresh, was part of the Sable rebirth for 2008. The fourth-generation Mercury Sable generation ran from 2000-'05. The Sable was available in sedan and wagon body styles. Depending on the year, trim levels included GS, GS Plus, LS and LS Premium. Standard equipment was generous on the lower levels, with the LS models providing upscale items like power-adjustable pedals, a power driver seat, automatic climate control and leather upholstery. A rear-facing third-row seat was standard on the LS wagon. The GS came standard with a 3.0-liter V6 that produced 157 hp and 189 pound-feet of torque. The preferred LS engine was also a 3.0-liter V6, but it made 200 hp and 200 lb-ft while achieving practically identical fuel economy.
